First Session Outline

The first session begins with the adventurers arriving in Avalon, the capital city of Valtara. They have received summons from Jacarat Hersatra, a member of parliament and their respective benefactor. At the appointed day and time they meet MP Hersatra at the Parliamentary building in Avalon and are ushered into a conference room.

There they are introduced to King Fox, the ruling monarch of Valtara. The king explains that he asked Jacarat to form an elite group of adventurers to help him locate the missing crown prince of Valtara, Prince Mikael. Mikael went missing five days ago, and leads are starting to go cold. The adventurers are then introduced to Nimor, director of Valtara’s Enchantment Commission which regulates the use of magic and acts as a central intelligence arm for the government. Nimor and his second-in-command, Thrain Forgewel have worked around the clock to try and locate the prince, to no avail. Nimor offers the full range of the EC’s power to the adventurers, and assigns Captain Dregas Merthyr as the groups personal liaison with the EC.

The adventurers must keep their investigation as quiet as possible, as dangerous forces are eager to exploit any weakness in the hierarchy of Valtara. Jacarat offers the adventurer's lodging and a dedicated investigation center at his hotel the “Royal Retreat Inn.” As the adventurers leave their briefing, they are given licenses that register them with the EC, and give them the ability to purchase magic items from approved vendors in the city.

Thrain pulls the adventurers aside after they receive their licenses and confides in them that tribesmen from the wilderness of Ravenswyld have been seen in the area, and that there has been an uptick in illegal potions being confiscated in the city. He confesses that the prince had summered in the woods near the Ravenswyld border, and that Director Nimor has been quick to dismiss the possibility of their involvement due to strained diplomatic relations.

Dregas brings the adventurers to “Magic Beans” , a coffee shop owned and operated by Leo, a faun that Dregas not so subtly flirts with. Leo is a popular figure since the coffee shop is in the same plaza as the parliament building and “The Royal Retreat.” Leo offers the adventurers any assistance he can give, and a listening ear. He suggests that the adventurers meet with Clarthonwen, the high priest of Galavar.

The party has the option to go to the Cathedral of Galavar or back to the Royal Retreat.

The party checks into the Royal Retreat, and can begin forming a game plan for their investigation. They are informed that there is a man outside who is asking for an audience with them, an undercover member of the tribes of Ravenswyld. He informs them that even though the disappearance of the prince hasn’t been formally announced, they are under surveillance from all sides. He informs them that the key to their investigation lies in the vault of confiscated items inside the EC headquarters, when he is attacked and killed by a creature, someone has used the illegal potions to supercharge a rabid owlbear that the party must defeat.
